Much like his Toto bandmate, Steve Lukather, drummer Jeff Porcaro was in a class by himself on his instrument. Porcaro played on many great records in the 1970’s and 80’s as an in-demand session player. His work with Toto brought him fame and recognition to the masses but most people in the music industry already knew about Jeff Porcaro. He first received recognition playing on all but one track on Steely Dan’s 1975 album Katy Lied as a 20-year-old. From there, Porcaro seemed to play on every album that needed a drummer to lay down a solid beat. In fact, when Pink Floyd recorded The Wall, drummer Nick Mason was struggling with the time-signature changes, so they brought in Porcaro to lay down the track. Jeff Porcaro sadly passed away at the age of 38. The list below is only a sampling of the songs he appeared on.
