Sometimes famous artists employ a backing band of touring or session musicians that change from tour to tour and album to album. In some cases, artists such as Tom Petty, Bruce Springsteen and Prince apply a band name for the group of musicians that they record and tour with. While John Mellencamp is just known as John Mellencamp, some names just don’t sound right without the backing band name.
